BOVEY Tracey 3rd XI scraped home by one wicket in the F Division West derby against South Devon 2nd XI.
Mark Andrews (20) and Harry Senior (29) propped up the South Devon innings after a wobbly start then Joe Kitto (22), Danny Duke (21no) and Matt Kitto (20no) took the score from 83 for six to 162 for eight.
“We had plenty of good starts with the bat with nobody able to carry it on, but at least we didn't get bowled out and kept Bovey out there longer than they hoped,” said South Devon skipper Kitto.
Ben Kay (2-21), Andy Williams (3-22) and Jamie Bishop (1-21) combined wicket taking and economy when Bovey bowled.
Bovey were three wickets down for four runs scored after an early going over from Duke (3-49) and Sean Andrews (4-31).
Bishop pulled Bovey back from the brink with a 65-ball knock of 97 that took them from 34 for four to 161 for seven. Sean Andrews whittled away at the middle order but could not shift Bishop
Just when it looked like game over, Duke dismissed Harry Pitman and Mark Andrews removed Bishop to leave Bovey level on 162 for nine.
Last man Williams managed to scramble a single with Nathan Jones to give Bovey the narrowest of wins.
Kitto was phlegmatic in defeat, observing: “We had them on the ropes with early wickets, but they found a way to win it despite all our best efforts and an excellent spell from Sean Andrews.
