A maiden century, seven wickets and a hat-trick too!

SOUTH Devon’s Kalen Warne has joined an exclusive group of cricketers after scoring a century AND taking a hat-trick in the same game!
All-rounder Warne went in first wicket down for South Devon 2nd XI in the F Division West derby date against Stokeinteignhead and made 115 in a 40-over total of 254 for five.
On his way to his maiden league century Warne was involved in a stand of 169 with opener Danny Duke (75). He reached his ton with a one- bounce four that scorched back past bowler Siju Chacko.
Warne then took seven Stoke wickets for 33 runs as the Villagers were reduced to 92 for nine before rain stopped play.
After Sean Andrews struck twice early in the innings, Warne took seven wickets on the reel including his three in a row.
Matt Kitto, captaining the team for the last time after five years in the job, said Warne’s hat-trick almost went un-noticed.
“Kalen took the first wicket at the end of one over and two more at the start of another,” said Kitto.
“We had to check it was a hat-trick with the scorers before offering out delayed applause.”
For the record Warne’s all-bowled hat-trick comprised Paul Hayes, Alan Bauer and Patrick Smye.
South Devon were declared 79-run winners once a run-rate calculation was factored in.
Devon League records are notoriously incomplete and don’t include odd achievements like Warne’s.
A quick trawl through the archives comes up with just one previous instance of a player scoring a century and performing a hat-trick in the same game.
Back in 2018 Ashburton’s Lloyd White scored 102 against Kingsbridge and took three in a row in the final over.
“It was a fluke really as I only bowled the last over because Ash Berry (the captain) had miscounted the overs people had bowled,” said White.
